Dow Giant J&J Beats Views, Guides Higher

Johnson & Johnson (JNJ) on Wednesday reported adjusted earnings of $2.48 per share on $23.31 billion in sales for its second quarter. In response, JNJ stock rose slightly.

On average, analysts polled by FactSet expected Johnson & Johnson to earn $2.29 per share on $22.49 billion in sales. In the year-earlier period, J&J earned $1.67 a share and reported $18.34 billion in sales.

For the year, the Dow Jones health care giant guided to adjusted EPS of $9.50-$9.60 from $9.42-$9.57. It sees sales of $92.5 billion to $93.3 billion. Analysts called for adjusted profit of $9.56 per share and $92.37 billion in sales.

In premarket trading on the stock market today, JNJ stock rose about 1% to 170. Shares are forming a flat base with a buy point at 173.75, according to MarketSmith.com.
