In the wake of Simone Biles’s exit from some Olympic events, many stars and prominent figures have praised the gymnast for prioritizing her health—including former first lady Michelle Obama, who tweeted her praise for Biles and the USA gymnastics team.
“Am I good enough? Yes, I am. The mantra I practice daily. @Simone_Biles, we are proud of you and we are rooting for you. Congratulations on the the silver medal, Team @USA!” Michelle Obama tweeted on July 27, after the gymnast pulled out of the all-around final.
After Biles withdrew, her teammate and friend, Jordan Chiles, took her spot in the team competition, and together the women of Team USA brought home a silver; the Russian Olympic Committee scored gold. Biles’s teammate, Sunisa Lee, wrote on Instagram after the medal ceremony, “Olympic silver medalists. the fighting 4 🤍 beyond proud of this team. in my heart, we are winners. we fought til the end and didn’t give up. tonight may not have gone how we wanted it to but we stepped up to the plate and give it our all. best team i could’ve asked for.”
And Biles herself said about the silver medal win, “I’m SO proud of these girls right here. You girls are incredibly brave & talented! I’ll forever be inspired by your determination to not give up and to fight through adversity! They stepped up when I couldn’t. thanks for being there for me and having my back! forever love y’all.”
Simone Biles wrote on Instagram a few days ago about Olympics pressure. “It wasn’t an easy day or my best but I got through it,” she said. “I truly do feel like I have the weight of the world on my shoulders at times. I know I brush it off and make it seem like pressure doesn’t affect me but damn sometimes it’s hard hahaha! The olympics is no joke! BUT I’m happy my family was able to be with me virtually🤍 they mean the world to me!”
